Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Wednesday said that BNP-Jamaat hired eight lobbyist firms in the US to give false information.
These lobbyist firms are working to stop the trial of war criminals and prevent Bangladesh from receiving US assistance, he added.
The Foreign Minister made the remarks in a speech to Parliament on Wednesday morning.
He also said that BNP-Jamaat hired eight lobbyist firms to obstruct the trial of war criminals, where they paid their expenses every month.
Earlier on Tuesday, after attending an exhibition titled “Humanitarian Principles. Here and Now” at Liberation War Museum in Dhaka, the Foreign Minister told reporters that the BNP hired lobbyists to undermine the country’s image abroad.
“It’s not illegal to hire lobbyists, but you have to see what is the objective … when anyone gives money to someone to undermine (his or her) the country .. it’s very unjust,” he told reporters.
Dr Momen said the Awami League government’s effort is to promote good governance and a positive image of Bangladesh.
“The Government appointed what we call a PR firm … and it is nothing new,” he added.
Dr Momen said the government had also hired the PR firm to counter false information those were provided abroad by the BNP-Jamaat quarter to prevent the trial of war criminals.
