The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Law has recommended two changes in the draft law on the formation of the Election Commission (EC) raised in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) on the eligibility and disqualification of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and the Election Commissioner (EC).
After discussing the bill at the committee meeting at the Sangsad building on Monday, the report was finalized for submission to the Parliament.
The report of the committee will be presented in the JS session next Wednesday.
After the meeting, Shahiduzzaman Sarkar, chairman of the parliamentary committee, told reporters that the committee had discussed the details and finalized the report. “We have made some changes in the place of qualifications and disqualifications. That is how the report will be given in the parliament,” he also said.
Law Minister Anisul Huq on Sunday raised the much-discussed ‘CEC and EC Commissioner Recruitment Bill-2022’ in Parliament. The bill was later examined and sent to a parliamentary committee for a report to the Sangsad within seven days.
