48 detained in anti-drug drive in capital

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has detained 48 people for selling and consuming drugs in anti-drug drives in different parts of the capital.

They were detained during raids in different areas in the capital from 6 am on Friday to the same time on Saturday. Hafiz Al Assad, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of the DMP's Media and Public Relations Department, confirmed the information.

He said 3,989 pieces of yaba, 170 grams of heroin, 21 kg 270 grams of cannabis, 10 narcotic injections, 3 liters of domestic liquor and 79 bottles of phencidyl were seized from the detainees.

He added that 39 cases have been filed against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act at the DMP police station. Such anti-drug campaign of DMP will continue, he said.

Earlier, the DMP had detained 65 people in different areas in the capital from 6 am on Thursday to the same time on Friday.

Hafiz Al Asad, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of the DMP's Media and Public Relations Department, confirmed the information to media on Friday.

He said 7,711 pieces of yaba, 78 grams of heroin, 31 kg 730 grams, 70 bags of pure cannabis and 48 bottles of phencidyl were seized from them.

The DMP police also said that 43 cases have been filed against the detained under the Narcotics Control Act at the DMP police station.
