Deputy Commissioners (DCs) have been instructed to shut down unregistered IPTVs, said Awami League Joint General Secretary and Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud.
He told reporters after the first session of the last day of the DCs conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Thursday.
Dr. Hasan Mahmud said all the DCs of the country have been instructed to shut down the “YouTube channels and unregistered IPTV channels that broadcast news” in the country. “They cannot broadcast news as per the broadcasting policy,” he also said.
But in some places, the news is still being broadcasted on IPTV which has been instructed to shut down. News bulletins are also broadcast on YouTube, which is against the broadcasting policy, Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud said. “Therefore, effective measures should be taken in this regard”
Dr. Hasan Mahmud said it was “commendable” the way they have managed mobile courts to implement “Clean Feed” since last year. Clean Feed has been implemented since October 1 last year. Yet they have been told to keep an eye on it. Those who only broadcast on the network should be careful not to broadcast any program locally as a television channel, he added.
