Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen today said we are abiding by our democratic rules. If there is any push in this, it will be taken seriously
He told reporters after an international conference organized by the Bangladesh Institute of Law and International Affairs on Friday morning.
“Under US law, hiring a lobbyist firm is a normal process. In this case, Bangladesh will use them where necessary,” AK Abdul Momen said.
“We are a country of law,” Foreign Minister said, adding that this country was created democratically. “America is also a democracy. There are many setbacks to democracy.”
The Foreign Minister said a ban had been imposed on the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). But the State Department says and acknowledges that RAB has “significantly reduced terrorism”. They will think about it.
“The RAB’s goal, which is to reduce terrorism, is doing other things successfully. Due to this, RAB has gained the confidence of the people of Bangladesh. I think everyone will understand this and then the situation will change,” he added.
Earlier, he was speaking as the chief guest at an international conference at the auditorium of the Bangladesh Institute of Law and International Affairs (BILIA).
Professor Mizanur Rahman, Director of Bilia, gave a welcome speech on the occasion. It was also attended by the Dean of the Department of Law at the University of Dhaka (DU) Dr. Rahmat Ullah, Chairman of BILIA and Senior Advocate Barrister M Amir-ul Islam among others.
