Instead of Pfizer, Moderna vaccines will now be given as booster doses to prevent Covid-19 infections.

A release signed by Dr. Shamsul Haque, Member Secretary of the Covid-19 Vaccine Management Task Force Committee of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS)'s Expanded Immunization Program (EPI), has been issued on Thursday in this regard.

According to the release, it has been directed to provide Moderna Covid-19 vaccine instead of Pfizer as the third dose or booster dose subject to receipt of vaccines at all levels of the country in the coronavirus vaccination program.

The Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine has been recommended for allocation for both school and college-going students (aged between 12-16) and for those who have received the Pfizer vaccine as the first dose.

With the kind approval of the Director General of the DGHS, the letter has been sent to all the Divisional Health Directors, Directors of Government Medical College Hospitals (All), All Government General Hospitals, Deputy Directors / Supervisors / Superintendents of District Sadar Hospitals, Civil Surgeons and others concerned.

Vaccination program against coronavirus was started in the country on January 27 last year. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the program at Kurmitola General Hospital in the capital through Oxford's AstraZeneca vaccine produced by Serum Institute of India.
