Amar Ekushey Book Fair will start from February 1, said Dr. Jalal Ahmed, member secretary of the Fair Management Committee and director of the Bangla Academy.

He expressed this hope on Wednesday in the wake of such rumors will there be a book fair or not this year amid the increase in the COVID pandemic outbreak.

Jalal Ahmed said he hoped the Prime Minister would inaugurate the book fair on February 1. However, if the COVID infection is high, the “hygiene rules will be strictly followed”.

“The book fair will be held in Suhrawardy Udyan like other years,” he said, adding that the Bangla Academy is also making preparations so that buyers and readers can come to the book fair strictly following the hygiene rules.

The main theme of this year’s book fair will be — “Bangabandhu’s Birth Centenary and Golden Jubilee of Independence.”

The book fair is organized by Bangla Academy from February 1 every year. However, due to the COVID pandemic last year, the book fair was delayed and started from March 18, which lasted till April 12.

According to Bangla Academy sources, stalls were allotted to 107 institutions in the academy premises and 433 institutions in the Suhrawardy Udyan premises in the 2021 Book Fair. Apart from this, there were 33 pavilions at the fair. In all, 466 publishing houses took part in the fair last year. This year too the number of stalls and pavilions will be the same as the 2021 book fair.
