60 detained in anti-drug drive in capital

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has detained 60 people on charges of selling and consuming drugs in anti-drug drives in different areas of the capital.

At the time, 5,744 pieces of yaba, 259 grams heroin and 1 kg 865 grams of cannabis were seized from them.

DMP Media and Public Relations Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Farooq Hossain confirmed the information on Tuesday saying the operation was carried out as a part of the DMP's regular anti-drug drive.

He said they were arrested after conducting raids in different areas in the capital from 6 am on Monday to the same time on Tuesday. 

The DMP official also said that 49 cases have been filed against the arrested persons under the Narcotics Control Act at the concerned police station.

Earlier, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 61 people in raids in different police station areas of the capital from 6 am on Sunday to the same time on Monday.  

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of the DMP's Media and Public Relations Department, Hafiz Al Asad, confirmed the information to media on Monday.

He said 3682 pieces of yaba, 259 grams heroin, 11 kg 230 grams of cannabis, 6 liters of liquor and 10 bottles of phencidyl were recovered from the detainees.

The police official also said that 53 cases have been filed against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act at the DMP police station.
