Gazette issued to battle Covid-19 spike

A gazette notification has been issued imposing new restrictions following the rise of new Covid-19 variant Omicron. The restrictions will be effective from January 13 (Thursday).

The Cabinet Division has issued a gazette notice in this regard on Monday afternoon.

According to the notice, restrictions have been imposed to keep socio-economic status and the overall situation of the country stable. The restriction will become in force until further notice from 13 January 2022.

The circular state that wearing masks is mandatory in all public places, including shops, shopping malls, markets, hotels, and restaurants. If anyone defies this rule will be brought under punishment.

Meanwhile, a press release issued by the Department of Health this afternoon said that three more people have died in the country in the last 24 hours from coronavirus infection and 2,231 people have been infected with the virus anew.

In the last 24 hours, the country reported 8.53 percent Covid-19 positive cases as 26,143 samples were tested in the past 24 hours. Which is the highest in four months. 

Earlier, on September 10 last year, the Department of Health reported 2,325 fresh Covid-19 cases.
