1 dead, hundreds of shops gutted in Kaptan Bazar fire

A young man was burnt to death in a fire that broke out in the capital's Kaptan Bazar market in the early hours of Saturday. Hundreds of shops have been gutted in the blaze. 

Some 12 units of the fire service brought the fire under control after hours of frantic efforts. However, the reason behind the blaze could not be immediately known. 

The deceased was identified as Yasin Hossain, 21. Further details about him could not be known yet. 

Confirming the information, Fire Service and Civil Defence control room duty officer Dewan Azad said, "The blaze originated at a shop in the market at about 4:45 am." 

On information, 12 firefighting units rushed to the spot and managed to extinguish the fire around 8:00 am today, he said.

Later, the firefighters team recovered the body of Yasin Hossain.
