Oral Covid drug marketing starts in country: Health Minister

Health Minister Zahid Maleque to spoke as the chief guest at the annual general meeting of Hijuli Diabetic Hospital in Manikganj on Thursday evening
Health Minister Zahid Maleque said that in addition vaccine, two US-made drugs (Nirmatrelvir tablets and Ritonavir tablets) have been approved in the country from today. This drug is known to be 88 percent effective.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the annual general meeting of Hijuli Diabetic Hospital in Manikganj on Thursday evening. The meeting passed a proposal to give 50 percent discount in the medical field for heroic freedom fighters and 20 percent discount for life members.
The minister said a single dose of coronavirus medicine would cost Tk 3,000. Must eat for five days. The cost of 30 tablets will be Tk 16,000. Everyone suffering from corona aged above 12 can take this medicine. The drug is marketed by Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited in Bangladesh.
"We are inoculating Covid-19 jabs. Booster doses are being administrated. We have received a promise of 31 crore vaccines. Of this, about 170 million vaccines have come into our hands. The first dose has been administrated to 70 million people while 50 million received the second dose."
The health minister said, "We are launching Vaccine activities in a new initiative from January. Vaccines will be inoculated in each ward. From 2022, the vaccine will be given in 28,000 booths in 15,000 wards in the country. In this we can bring 4 crore people under vaccination. We have no shortage of vaccines. We need to adhere to hygiene rules to reduce the rate of infection and death.
President of the Diabetic Association and Deputy Commissioner of Manikganj Muhammad Abdul Latif presided over the function. District Awami League President Golam Mohiuddin, Municipal Mayor Ramzan Ali, General Secretary of Diabetic Association Sultanul Azam Khan Apel, General Secretary of District Sports Association Sudeb Saha, Vice President of Diabetic Association Nina Rahman, and others.
