PM directs state minister Murad to resign

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has asked the state minister for information and broadcasting, Dr. Murad Hasan, to resign from the cabinet by tomorrow following his shameful remarks.

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader made the development at his residence on Monday night in response to a question from reporters about Dr. Murad Hasan.

He said the matter was discussed with Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the evening and I conveyed the message to State Minister Murad Hasan at 8 pm tonight.

The Jamalpur-4, MP, was in the discussion for the last few days due to controversial remarks. He made derogatory remarks on BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, her son Tarique Rahman and his daughter Zaima Rahman.

After that, allegations of offensive and obscene remarks against the leaders of Chhatra League of Dhaka University were leveled against the Minister of State for Information. In protest, several currents and former BCL leaders demanded Murad's resignation.

Meanwhile, Murad Hasan's offensive phone conversation with actress Mahiya Mahi was leaked at midnight on Sunday. It instantly went viral on social media.

Actor Emon confirmed the authenticity of the audio that went viral. He said the incident took place two years ago.

Protests are raging from various parts over his remarks, having a responsible position in the government. Meanwhile, gender experts and rights activists have condemned the state minister's remarks as 'ugly', 'indecent', and 'disgraceful'. They say anyone in a responsible position in the government is no longer eligible to hold office after making such threats and statements.
