Police arrested two people in connection with the vandalism and torching of buses during protests over the death of a student in a bus accident in Rampura area of Dhaka.

The arrestees are - private car driver Shapon Reza, and vegetable vendor Shahid Bapari.

Police said that Shapon Reza was arrested from Rampura on Saturday night while Shahid was held earlier. 

OC of Rampura Police Station Rafiqul Islam said that the two were arrested after analyzing CCTV footage and technology at the scene. Attempts are being made to arrest others involved in the incident. 

Arrested Swapan Reza will be sent to court and sought in remand, he added. 

Mainuddin Islam Durjoy, a candidate in the ongoing SSC examination and student of Ekramunnesa School and College, was hit by the bus around 10:45 pm on Monday in the Rampura Bazar area, leaving him dead on the spot. The incident prompted an agitated mob to vandalize and torch buses in the area at the time.
