413 lives lost in November road mishaps

Road accidents have taken a horrible turn in the country. The number of people that died in road accidents in November is much higher than in October this year. 413 people died in road mishaps in November where 532 people were injured.

The information was obtained in a report by the Road Safety Foundation on Saturday.

The Road Safety Foundation has compiled the report based on information from seven national dailies, five online news portals and electronic media.

According to the Road Safety Foundation, nine people were killed in seven naval accidents in November. Five people are still missing. At least 13 people were killed and two others injured in 11 railway accidents. 

The report states that the Dhaka division has seen the highest number of accidents and deaths in November as per division – 104 people died in 83 accidents. The lowest tally was in the Barishal division – 24 killed in 22 accidents.

The report also states that Chattogram district has seen the maximum number of accidents and deaths as per district - 29 people were killed in 21 accidents. The lowest tally in Lalmonirhat district where no casualties were reported although two accidents occured. 

As per the district, Dhaka has seen 16 deaths in 14 road accidents. 

According to the report, Chittagong district has the highest number of accidents and deaths as a single district. 29 people were killed in 21 accidents. The lowest death toll is in the Lalmonirhat district. No one was injured in the two accidents. At least 16 people have been killed in 14 accidents in the capital Dhaka.

According to statistics by Road Safety Foundation, 407 people were killed in 346 road accidents in October 2021. On average, 11.16 percent of accidents took place every day while 13.12 percent of deaths took place. In November, an average of 12.63 percent of accidents occurred every day where 13.76 percent of people died. 

Compared to October, the number of accidents in November has increased by 1.47 percent and the death toll has increased by 0.46 percent.
