Country's first metro railway is being constructed from Uttara to Motijheel in the capital. Preparations are underway to launch the 20.1 km long railway line from Diabari to Agargaon by December 2022. Now the experimental operation is going on.
On Monday afternoon, a six-car train was run from Capital's Diabari to Railway Station No. 6 of Mirpur-10.
On August 29, the Metro Rail was operated from Uttara's Diabari Depot to Mirpur Pallabi Station at 10:00am.
According to Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), a Metro Rail coach, comprising six compartments, was operated from Diabari to Railway Station No. 6 of Mirpur-10 on experimental basis at 1pm today.
DMTCL sources said passengers would not be allowed onboard the Metro Rail coach since it is now being operated on experimental basis. The Metro Rail is likely to be operated from Uttara to Agargaon commercially after December 2022.
DMTCL Managing Director MAN Siddique said the train was run on the Metrorail route for the second time today on an experimental basis. The people involved in the project were the passengers of this train.
According to eyewitness, the train stopped at each station for 10 to 12 minutes after departing from Diabari. People who live in high-rise buildings adjacent to the rail lines saw the movement of metro rail on the rail tracks.
