Half fare from Dec 1 for BRTC buses for students: Quader

Road Transport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said that “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has decided to reduce BRTC bus fares by 50 percent across the country” in response to the demands of students.
He announced at a briefing at his residence in the capital on Friday.
“Sheikh Hasina government is the people’s government. She gives the utmost priority to any demand that is related to the people welfare and logical,” Obaidul Quader said.
After the decision comes into effect from December 1, students will be able to travel on “BRTC buses at half fare”. During this, “students must bring a valid identity card with photograph issued by their respective educational institution and display it” if required, he added.
The Road Minister further said that this concession (benefit) in case of traveling in BRTC bus from 7 am to 8 pm. However, the concession will not be applicable on the day of the closure of the educational institution. BRTC will issue a notification in this regard soon.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said a meeting between the transport owners and labor federation leaders would be held at the BRTA on Saturday to discuss the issue of giving concessions to students in privately owned buses and minibusses. Transport owners will make a positive decision, considering the social responsibility and student demands, he hoped.
