Schoolgirl jumps from Gulshan building over family dispute

A schoolgirl named Sana Rezwan Selim, 14, has died after jumping from a building at Gulshan in the capital. 

The incident took place at Road No. 41 in Gulshan-2 at around 2:30 am on Friday. 

Police recovered the body on Saturday morning and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue for autopsy.

Gulshan Police Station duty officer SI Shilpi Akhter said Sana, a sixth-grade student of Sunbeams School in Uttara and daughter of Rezwan Selim – a garment trader, used to live with her parents on the 10th floor of the 12-storey building. She was the youngest of two sisters.   

SI Shilpi Akhter added that Sana jumped from the 10th floor on Friday due to a dispute with her parents. She died on the spot. Her body was recovered around 4:30 am after receiving the news. It was initially reported that “Sana committed suicide”.

The aunt of the deceased has filed a suicide case with the police station. The matter is being looked into in detail, SI Shilpi Akhter also said.
