Launch fare increased; Notification issued

In view of increasing the diesel price in the country’s market, the Ministry of Shipping has increased the launch fare by 60 paisa per kilometer.
The Ministry of Shipping has issued a notification in this regard, signed by Md. Aminur Rahman, deputy secretary of the ministry, on Monday.
According to the notification, the launch fare has been increased by 60 paisa per kilometer after a meeting with the launch owners on Sunday night.
As a percentage, the fare has been increased to 35.29 percent for short distance launches and 42 percent for long-distance launches.

The government has refixed the maximum and minimum fares of naval vessels per kilometer for public transport as per Rule 27 of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport (Routes, Permits, Schedules and Fares) Rules, 2019, by the recommendation of the committee and the proposal of BIWTA -
- For the first 100km distance, the passenger fare per km has been increased by 70 paisa per person and fixed at Tk 2.30.
- For the first 100km long-distance, the fare per km has been increased by Tk 0.60 to Tk 2.00.
- The minimum rent per person is set at Tk 25.
“The refixed fare will be effective from Monday,” the notification said. However, in a meeting held last night with the owners at the BIWTA office in Motijheel, it was said that “the rent would be effective from Sunday night”.
Earlier, the fare was Tk 1.70 per km to 100 km. For a distance of more than 100 km, the fare was Tk 1.40. Besides, the minimum rent was Tk 18.
