The new private airline Air Astra has received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).

CAAB’s chief executive officer (CEO) Imran Asif confirmed the matter to the media on Thursday.

He said on September 21, an application was submitted to CAAB for registration and flight management as an airline. On Thursday they get NOC. The next process will be to apply for Air Operator Certificate (AOC). Once all the approvals and processes are completed, Air Astra will start operations in February 2022.

Imran Asif further said the airlines are allowed to fly on international routes after operating flights on domestic routes for at least one year. “Initially we have plans to operate flights with 4 ATR 72-600 model aircraft on domestic routes,” he added.

Currently, US-Bangla Airlines and NovoAir operate private flights in Bangladesh. Besides, Biman Bangladesh Airlines is the state flag carrier.
