Abrar murder: 9 BCL men held, case filed against 19

A case was filed against 19 people over the murder of Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet).
Abrar’s father Barkat Ullah filed the case with Chawkbazar Police Station on Monday evening.
Confirming the information, Chawkbazar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Sohrab Hossain said that nine, who were detained earlier, have been included in the case.
Earlier in the day, at least nine members of Buet unit Chhatra League have been detained in connection with the murder of Abrar. They were taken into custody for interrogation, said the OC.
The detainees are - Buet Chhatra League General Secretary Mehedi Hasan Rasel, Joint Secretary Muhtasim Fuad, who is also the vice president of Sher-e-Bangla hall, Information and Research Affairs Secretary Anik Sarker, Sports Secretary and student of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Meftahul Islam Zion, Chhatra League Organizing Secretary Mehedi Hasan Robin, Publication Secretary Ishtiaq Hasan Munna, Deputy Social Service Secretary Ifti Mosharraf Shakal, Deputy Law Affairs Secretary Amit Saha, and Tanveerul Arefin Ithan, student of mechanical engineering department.
The body of Abrar was recovered from the Buet’s Sher-E-Bangla residential hall early Sunday. He, hailing from Kushtia, was a second-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of the institution.
Abrar's classmates claimed that he was beaten to death. He was a resident of the no-1011 room of the institution’s Sher-E-Bangla residential hall.
