ACC case: 2 witnesses give testimony against Golden Monir

Two people gave testimony before the court against Monir Hossain alias Golden Monir in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charges of illegal acquisition of wealth.

They testified before the Judge Shahidul Islam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-7 on Monday. With this, the testimony of three people in the case ended.

The two witnesses are - ACC Deputy Director Ali Akbar and ACC retired Deputy Director Khairul Huda. 

The accused Golden Monir was produced before the court today. Then the testimony began in his presence. After the testimony of the two witnesses was over, the defense counsel cross-examined them. After the interrogation, the court fixed September 14 for the next hearing. 

It is said in the charge sheet that Monir has demanded donations from various persons to the ACC to legitimize Tk 1 crore 61 lakh earned illegally. However, on investigation, those persons were proved to be fake and non-existent. Accused Monir Hossain has given information of Tk 1 Crore 49 Lakh 85 thousand in income tax documents at various times but its valid source has not been found. 

According to ACC investigation report, Monir had a total of Tk 3 crore 10 lakh 85 thousand illegal assets till June 18, 2009.

On March 13, 2012, ACC Deputy Director Harunur Rashid filed a case at Ramna Police Station as the plaintiff. 

After the investigation, on February 2, 2021, ACC Deputy Director Md. Mosharraf Hossain Mridha filed the charge sheet in the case. On September 16, 2021, the court dismissed the acquittal plea of the accused and ordered to begin the trial.
