Ashraful Ahsan Jitu, an accused schoolboy in the murder case of Utpal Kumar Sarkar, a teacher at Haji Yunus Ali School and College in Ashulia, Savar, has pleaded guilty.

The court of Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Rajib Hasan on Wednesday recorded his statement. Earlier, Jitu’s father Ujjal made a confessional statement in court yesterday.

After the remand, the police produced Jitu in court. At the time, Jitu voluntarily agreed to make a confessional statement. The investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Emdadul Haque, then appealed to record his statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The court recorded his statement in light of the petition. He was then sent to jail. Earlier, on June 30, the court granted him a five-day remand.

On June 25, teacher Utpal Kumar Sarkar was severely injured after tenth-grader Jitu beat him with a stump. Then on the morning of June 27, the teacher died while undergoing treatment.

Asim Kumar Sarkar, the elder brother of the teacher, filed a case against the unidentified persons with the Ashulia police station.
