Teacher beaten to death: Jitu remanded for 5 days

A Dhaka court has granted a five-day remand to Ashraful Ahsan Jitu - the prime accused in the murder case of Ashulia teacher Utpal Kumar Sarkar. 

The court of Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Rajib Hasan granted the remand on Thursday. 

Accused Jitu was produced before the court today. Sub-inspector Emdadul Haque, the investigating officer of the case, pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand. The court later granted him a five-day remand.  

Utpal Kumar Sarkar (35) was a lecturer of political science at Haji Yunus Ali School and College in Ashulia's Chitrasail area. On Saturday (June 25), he was beaten to seriously injured by Jitu, a class 10 student of the same School. The teacher died while undergoing treatment on Monday morning. 

Aseem Kumar Sarkar, elder brother of the deceased, filed a case at Ashulia Police Station on Sunday over the incident accusing the attacker and several unnamed people. 

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Jitu from his hideout in Sripur area of Gazipur on Wednesday (June 29).  

Another court on June 29 placed Jitu's father Uzzal Hossain on five-day remand in the case. He was arrested from Kumarkhali upazila of Kushtia on June 28.
