A Dhaka court has granted remand to Ishtiaq Ahmed Jitu and Mohammad Maruf Khan in connection with the murders of Dhaka Awami League leader Jahidul Islam Tipu, and college student Samia Afran Jamal Prity.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Asaduzzaman Nur passed the order on Thursday.

The sources of the general registration branch of the concerned court confirmed the information on Friday.

The two accused in the case were produced before the court yesterday. Investigation officer of the case Detective Branch (DB) Inspector (Unarmed) Mohammad Yasin Sikder applied for a 10-day remand for Jitu and a seven-day remand for Maruf Khan. Following the plea, the court granted three days of remand to Jitu and two days to Maruf Khan.

Meanwhile, three other accused - Omar Farooq, Nasir Uddin alias Killer Nasir and Morshedul Alam alias Kayla Palash - were sent to jail yesterday on completion of their two-day fresh remand in the case.

Detectives arrested Jitu, an arms supplier, from Dhaka's Moghbazar area on Wednesday. With Jitu, at least 14 persons have been arrested in the double murder case so far. Detectives, however, are yet to recover the firearms used for the killings.

According to detectives, Jitu was earlier in jail for 2 years in connection with the murder of a DB inspector at a hotel in Moghbazar.
