A tribunal has sentenced three people, including Abdul Aziz alias Habul of Moulvibazar's Baralekha, to death for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
A three-member International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) headed by Justice Md Shahinur Islam delivered the verdict on Thursday.
The two other two convicts are Abdul Mannan alias Monai Miah, of Taradaram village; and Abdul Matin of Barlekha Upazila in Moulvibazar. Among them Abdul Matin is a fugitive.
According to the prosecution, the trio was involved with local Razakar Bahini, carrying out monstrous crimes in their locality in 1971. The investigation agency of the ICT launched probe against the trio on October 16, 2014.
On April 12 this year, the tribunal kept the judgment waiting after the prosecution and defence counsels completed their closing arguments.
