Crimes against humanity: Verdict against 3 Moulvibazar men today

The verdict against three Moulvibazar men will be announced on Thursday for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971. 

A three-member International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) headed by Justice Md Shahinur Islam is set to deliver the verdict. The other members of the tribunal are - Justice Abu Ahmed Jamadar and KM Hafizul Alam. 

Earlier on Tuesday, the tribunal set today for announcing the verdict against the three. 

The three war criminals are Abdul Aziz alias Habul, of Pakhiala village; Abdul Mannan alias Monai Miah, of Taradaram village; and Abdul Matin of Barlekha Upazila in Moulvibazar.  

On April 12, the tribunal kept the judgment waiting after the prosecution and defence counsels completed their closing arguments. 

On that day, Barrister M Sarwar Hossain appeared for the accused Abdul Mannan and advocate Abdus Sattar Paloyan for Abdul Aziz. On the other hand, Prosecutor Mohammad Mokhlesur Rahman Badal and Prosecutor Sabina Yasmin Khan Munni represented the state. 

According to the prosecution, the trio was involved with local Razakar Bahini, carrying out monstrous crimes in their locality in 1971. The investigation agency of the ICT launched probe against the trio on October 16, 2014.
