ACC appeals to tackle Samrat’s bail

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has appealed to the High Court to tackle the bail of Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat in a case filed over the casino incident.

The petition was filed in the High Court bench of Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Talukdar and Justice Kazi Md. Izharul Haque Akand seeking a stay and cancellation of Samrat’s bail on Monday. 

ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said “the petition would be heard tomorrow”.

Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, the ousted president of Dhaka Metropolitan South Jubo League, was released on May 11 after getting bail in all the cases. Dhaka Metropolitan Special Judge Al Asad Md. Asifuzzaman granted him bail on that day.

ACC deputy director Md. Jahangir Alam filed a case against Samrat on November 12, 2019, on the charge of acquiring illegal assets worth Tk 2,94,80,087.

On May 11, the court granted bail to Samrat on “three conditions” and a bond of Tk 10,000 till June 9. The conditions are -- Samrat cannot leave the country without the permission of the court, the passport must be submitted and the health examination report must be submitted on the next due date.
