Police seeks 7-day remand of BNP leader Maqbool

Police shout for a seven-day remand for BNP leader Advocate Maqbool Hossain, who was arrested on charges of obstructing police work in a clash between Dhaka College students and New Market traders.
A hearing will be held in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mamunur Rashid on Saturday afternoon.
Maqbool was produced before the court today. The investigation officer of the case, Inspector Haldar Arpit Tagore, appealed to remand him for seven days for proper investigation of the case filed with Newmarket Police Station.
Earlier, Maqbool Hossain was arrested from his Dhanmondi residence in the capital on Friday afternoon.
Maqbool is named as the prime suspect in a case filed at New Market Police Station by Inspector Yamin Kabir. The charges include obstructing government activity, attacking police, throwing brickbats, vandalism and injuring others.
Twenty-three other suspects are named in the case alongside 200-300 unnamed New Market traders and workers and 600-700 Dhaka College students.
