The hearing on framing charges against three people including cricketer Nasir Hossain and his wife Tamima in a case filed over their illegal marriage has ended. A court in Dhaka today has fixed February 9 for giving a verdict in the case.

Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain’s court set the date for the order after hearing on framing charges on Monday.

The other accused in the case is Tamima’s mother Sumi Akhter.

On this day, three accused including Nasir and Tamima appeared in the court. The lawyers then pleaded not guilty and demanded their release. The plaintiffs, on the other hand, held a hearing in favor of the charge framing. After hearing both the parties, the court fixed February 9 for the order.

Earlier on February 24 last year, Tamima’s ‘ex-husband’ Rakib Hasan filed the case in court.

Then on September 30 last year, the PBI’s Inspector of Police (Retd.) Sheikh Md. Mizanur Rahman found the three guilty and submitted a report to the court.

On October 31, Nasir and Tamima surrendered before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Mohammad Jasim and sought bail plea. After hearing of both sides, the Judge granted bail and ordered to transfer the case to another court for trial.

On September 30, Nasir, Tamima and Sumi Akhter were summoned to appear before the court on October 31.

On the same day, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted an investigation report to the court saying the marriage of Nasir and Tamima was illegal. Mizanur Rahman, the Investigating Officer (IO) of the case, submitted the report against the three accused including Nasir.

The investigation agency in its report said Tamima Sultana Tammi, a cabin crew of Saudi Airlines, illegally got married to Nasir without divorcing her first and legal husband Md Rakib Hasan.

She also created a forged divorce notice and supplied it to different media outlets. The probe report also found Nasir and Tamima’s mother guilty for the same crime.

Rakib and Tamima got married on February 26, 2011, and they have an eight-year-old daughter. On February 14, 2021, Tamima married Nasir without divorcing Rakib.
