Cocktail explosion: 10 BNP leaders, activists get 5yrs in jail

A Dhaka court today has sentenced 10 BNP leaders and activists to five years in prison in a case related to a cocktail explosion in the Vasantek police station area during the strike called by the BNP in 2013.

Judge Amirul Islam of Dhaka Special Tribunal-9 handed over the verdict on Monday.

State counsel Karima Akhter and Obaidul Haque Chowdhury confirmed the matter.

They said the court had sentenced 10 BNP leaders and activists to five years in prison and ordered the release of 14 others in connection with the explosion of cocktails during the strike called by the BNP in 2013.

According to the allegations in the case, the accused detonated a cocktail at the intersection of Vasantek police station on November 26, 2013, during a strike called by 18-parties including BNP. Jahidul Islam, sub-inspector of Vasantek police station, filed a case under the Explosives Act. 

ABM Asaduzzaman, sub-inspector of Vasantek police station, filed the chargesheet against the accused on March 31, 2014. Ten people testified in court at different times in the case. Four of the accused testified in court.
