Verdict against ex-DIG Partha Gopal tomorrow

The verdict against Partha Gopal Banik, Suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG Prisons) of Sylhet Central Jail, will be delivered on Sunday (January 9) in a case filed under the Bribery and Money Laundering Act.
Judge Sheikh Nazmul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 is set to pronounce the judgment.
Earlier on December 27, the same court set the date for announcing the verdict. Accused Partha Gopal was produced in court from jail on that day. Then the argument began in his presence. At that time, the ACC presented the argument and demanded the maximum punishment for the accused Partha Gopal. Meanwhile, the defendant's lawyer presented his arguments and demanded acquittal.
On August 24, 2020, ACC Assistant Director Md Salahuddin, the investigation officer in the case, filed the chargesheet against accused Partha Gopal in court.
Then on August 31 last year, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayesh accepted the charge sheet. At the same time, the case was transferred to Dhaka Special Judge's Court-10. Later on November 4, the court rejected the bail plea of accused Partha Gopal and framed charges against him.
With this, the formal trial of the case began. On December 15, the court recorded the statement of ACC Assistant Director Md Salauddin, the plaintiff in the case. With this, the testimony in the case started.
Earlier, Partha Gopal Banik was arrested by the anti-graft watchdog on 28 July 2019, on charges of irregularities and corruption, after Tk80 lakh was recovered during a raid at his residence in the capital.
According to ACC, the money was earned through bribery, corruption, and irregularities.
