Indictment hearing of James-Miles’ 2 cases Feb 3

A court in Dhaka today has fixed February 3 for a hearing in two separate cases filed under the Copyright Act against private mobile phone company Banglalink for using music without permission. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayes fixed the date on Wednesday. 

The day was fixed for hearing in the formation of charges in these two cases. However, the accused in the case, Banglalink CEO Eric Aas, was out of the country, later, his lawyer appealed for time.   

Following the appeal, the court fixed February 3 for the hearing of the chargesheet.

The other accused are – Banglalink CEO Eric Aas, Chief Compliance Officer M Nurul Alam, Chief Digital Officer Sanjay Vaghasia, Chief Corporate Regulatory Officer Taimur Rahman and Head of VAS Anik Dhar. 

Earlier on November 30, the court granted them ad-interim bail. The court fixed January 5, 2022, for the next hearing of the case.

On November 10, Faruq Mahfuz Anam, aka Nagarbaul James and Hamin Ahmed and Manan Ahmed of band team Miles filed two separate cases against Banglalink under Copyright Act.

The judge took cognizance of the charges and issued summons asking them to appear before it today.

According to case statements, Banglalink is using six of James’ songs as caller tunes and welcome tunes, and in advertisements which is a violation of copyright laws.
