Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad was murdered by false, fabricated and baseless allegations.

“This incident has hurt everyone in Bangladesh,” the court said, observing that “maximum punishment has been given to the accused so that such incidents never happen again”.

A court in Dhaka today has sentenced 20 students to death and five others to life imprisonment for beating to death BUET student Abrar Fahad.

The court of Judge Abu Jafar Md. Kamruzzaman of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 announced the verdict at noon on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, after the verdict, Abrar’s father Barkat Ullah said, “We are happy with the verdict. But we will be happier if this verdict is upheld in the High Court.”

After the verdict, anxiety was noticed among the relatives of the accused in the court premises. Some relatives were also seen crying.

Earlier, on November 14, the state and the defense concluded their arguments in the case. The court fixed December 8 for the verdict.
