RJ Nirob, Qcoom boss denied bail in two cases

A court in Dhaka today has dismissed bail petitions of Ripon Mia, chief executive officer (CEO) of e-commerce company Qcoom, and Humayun Kabir alias RJ Nirob, head of the company’s sales department, in two cases filed with the Gulshan police station.

Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Bakar Siddique’s court denied them bail after a hearing on Monday.

On the day, the lawyers of RJ Nirob and Ripon filed a bail petition while the state opposed the bail. After hearing both sides, the court dismissed their bail petitions.

A customer named Tanzina Afrin Ethen filed a lawsuit in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuiyan on October 12 alleging embezzlement of Tk 18,11,323. The court directed the Gulshan police to take the case as evidence.

Another customer named Quader Khan filed another lawsuit with Gulshan Police Station on October 18 alleging embezzlement of Tk 45,36,929.

Besides, several cases have been filed against Qcoom with different police stations. The court has rejected the bail pleas of the accused in several cases.

On October 8, RJ Nirob was arrested from Adabar in the capital. On the same day, the court granted him one-day remand in a case filed with Tejgaon police station. After remand, he was sent to jail on October 10. On October 18, the court granted him another day’s remand in a case filed with Lalbagh Police Station.

After the remand, RJ Nirob was sent to jail again on October 25. He has been in jail ever since. Earlier, Qcoom CEO Ripon Mia was arrested on October 3.
