West Bengal’s Commerce and Industry minister Partha Chatterjee was sacked from the cabinet due to the teacher recruitment scam.

Five days after Partha Chatterjee’s arrest over a multi-crore-rupee school teacher recruitment scam, Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee sacked Partha ahead of a meeting of the ruling Trinamool’s disciplinary committee on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the meeting may decide whether the accused leader will be kept in the party. Report: Anandabazar Patrika

It is learned that Partha was in charge of three ministries of the state. These included the Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Information Technology and Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. With Partha’s sacking, three ministries will now be under the CM’s control.

The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) raided Partha Chatterjee’s residence on July 22. That evening, 21 crores 90 lakh rupees were recovered from the flat of Arpita Chatterjee, an aide to Partha. Parth and Arpita were arrested the next day.

On July 27, another raid was conducted at another flat of Arpita in Belgharia. 27 crore 90 lakh rupees were recovered from her flat along with several crores of gold. Several property deeds and documents were also seized. A total of Rs 50 crore has been recovered from Arpita’s Taliganj and Belgharia flats so far.
