Thalita do Valle, a Brazilian model who joined the Ukrainian army, was killed in a Russian missile strike. She joined the Ukrainian military three weeks ago as a sniper.

On Monday, a Russian missile obliterated her bunker in Kharkiv, Ukraine. The bunker was destroyed and the Brazilian model died. Russia has been bombing the northeastern Ukrainian city since the war began in February.

Douglas Burigo, a former Brazilian army member, was also killed in the same missile attack. He went to the obliterated bunker to find Thalita and lost his life.

The Ukrainian military says Douglas was the “lone survivor” of the first missile attack in an area of Kharkiv. Thalita do Valle, who studied law, had earlier started her career as a model and actress. She later shared her battlefield experience on YouTube.

Thalita's brother Theo Rodrigo Viera described his sister as a “hero” for her role in saving lives and taking part in humanitarian missions. He said Thalitha had only been in Ukraine for three weeks where she also worked there as a rescue worker and sharpshooter.

Earlier, Thalita do Valle was briefly spared a Russian bombing in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv. She spoke to her family for the last time on Monday.
