Manipur landslide death toll soars 81

The death toll from a devastating landslide in Manipur, India, has risen to 81. Another 55 people are still trapped under the rubble.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh told ANI that the landslide was the worst in the history of the state. We have lost 81 people in this disaster. Among these, “18 were army members”. About 55 people are still trapped under the rubble. Rescue workers said it would take another two to three days to recover the bodies.

The Central Government of India has sent National Disaster Response Force and Army personnel to assist in the rescue operation.

The Indian Army said the bodies of the Territorial Army soldiers were being sent to their homes in honor. 15 soldiers are still missing. 29 local residents are also missing. Their rescue operation is being carried out.

The landslide took place near Tupul railway station on Thursday due to continuous rain. An army camp was located there.
