Yael Braun-Pivet has elected as the first woman speaker of the French National Assembly. She is the first female speaker in the history of modern France. She has been a Member of Parliament since 2017.
In his first speech since being elected speaker, Yael raised the issue of abortion rights. She spoke about the fertility of girls.
The newly-elected speaker of the lower house of the French parliament, the National Assembly, said the US Supreme Court had ruled in favor of “abolishing women’s abortion rights” on Friday. As a result, we were shocked. That verdict reminds us that we need to be “more aware”.
Yael Braun-Pivet said it would not be right to take anything for granted. History says we have improved a lot. But that improvement may have to be taken backward again. Girls have got rights by fighting. Girls need to be vigilant. We have to fight for that right to be maintained.
Yael Braun-Pivet has long been in Taiwan and Japan. She is a former lawyer. France24 reports that her grandfather was a Jew from Eastern Europe. He came to France in 1930 to escape persecution.
Yael has not been in politics for a long time. Earlier, she was in the Socialist Party. She joined Macron’s alliance before the 2017 parliamentary elections. She has also served as a minister for a month.
