Three people have been killed in a shooting in the US state of Maryland. Another was seriously injured in the incident.

The shooting took place at a factory in northern Maryland on Thursday, local time.

Police say a gunman opened fire on his colleagues, causing casualties. Police have taken the accused gunman into custody. Earlier, the accused was also involved in a gunfight with the police.

News agency Reuters informed this in a report on Friday.

At a news conference after the gunman was shot, Washington County Sheriff Douglas Mullendore said the assailant was 23-years-old, the report said. “He was wounded in a gunfight with a Maryland state trooper while trying to flee in a car after being hit by a trooper and was later taken into custody.

However, Sheriff Douglas Mullendore did not reveal the name of the accused youth. The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment as both the youths and the security personnel were injured in the shooting.

Mullendore, however, declined to give details about the background or possible motive behind the attack. However, he said the gunman and his shooting victims were all employees of the Columbia Machine in Smithsburg, North Maryland, near the Pennsylvania state border.

He added that during the attack, the accused youth opened fire using a “semi-automatic pistol handgun”.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Columbia Machine said they were cooperating with the authorities’ investigation into the gun attack and casualties. However, they declined to comment further.

Noteworthy that there are frequent gun attacks in the United States. With this, a commotion has started in the country. President Joe Biden himself has expressed concern about the arms embargo.
