At least 10 Pakistani soldiers have been killed in an insurgent attack on a checkpoint in Balochistan province.

Pakistan Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the news on Thursday.

The bomber struck shortly after noon in the Kich area of Balochistan province, killing at least one person and wounding several others. 10 soldiers were martyred in the retaliatory fire of the terrorists.

Citing the army, local media reported that three Baloch rebels had been detained in the area following the incident. So far, however, no Baloch group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

It is learned that the slain soldiers are members of Pakistan's Frontier Corps. They were responsible for securing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and oil pipelines in the area.

Insurgent groups such as the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and the Baloch Nationalist Army (BNA) have carried out several such attacks in recent times.

On January 5, two Pakistani soldiers were killed during a military operation in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Balochistan. Later on January 20, an explosion took place in Lahore that killed three people.
