At least five people died after a member of the National Guard opened fire at a military factory in the Eastern European country of Ukraine. Five more people were wounded in the incident.

The casualties took place at a military factory in the central part of the country on Thursday, Al Jazeera reported.

A report released by the Ukrainian police on Thursday states that a member of the National Guard had shot dead five security personnel at a military base in central Ukraine. At that time, 5 more people were wounded in the firing of that army member. The cause of the shooting was not known.

“The incident took place on Thursday morning at Pivdenmash aerospace plant in Dnipro, Ukraine,” police said in a statement.

The accused soldiers shot and killed five others while handing over weapons to the soldiers. The accused soldier later fled the scene. However, a search is on for the escaped soldier.

Ukraine’s Interior Ministry said the attacker fired at others with a Kalashnikov assault rifle and then fled the scene. The ministry confirmed that five people were killed and five others were injured in the attack.
