Deganga police in India has arrested a policeman for not wearing a mask. The incident took place in West Bengal, India, creating a stir in the area.

According to the Anandabazar Patrika, strict restrictions on Covid-19 have been imposed at Deganga in West Bengal. From Tuesday (January 18) till February 12, all the shops and bazaars in the area will be closed for two days a week. The North 24 Parganas district administration has already started its preparations.

On Monday, Deganga police chief Sowmojit Barua was conducting a public awareness program with the police force by announcing via a mic to the people at the intersection of Berachampa-Baduria road. They were accompanied by Anisur Rahman, president of Deganga Trinamool Congress. At that time, the policeman was riding a motorcycle with his wife in “plain clothes without any mask”, the Anandabazar Patrika reported.

Witnesses said “police officers ordered the masked policeman to stand”. The accused policeman got into an altercation with other police officials after asking why he was not wearing a mask. He was then dragged into a prison van and detained. The man was later identified as a state police constable, in charge of security for one of the state ministers.
