Six people have been dead after an explosion and subsequent fire at a commercial building in the Canadian capital Ottawa. At least five people are still missing in the incident, police said on Friday.
Reuters reported this information in a report, citing the Canadian police, that the authorities are searching for the missing employees.
According to Reuters, the fire broke out after an explosion in the Nepean area of the capital on Thursday afternoon.
The building that exploded is owned by a tanker (oil) truck manufacturing company. Reuters called the company but “they could not say why it had exploded”.
Ottawa police say they are still searching for four missing men and a woman, but their chances of survival are “slim”.
Meanwhile, the hospital authorities said the condition of one of the injured was critical. Another was released with first aid.
Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson extends his condolences to the families of the victims. The city’s police and fire department are “jointly investigating” the incident with the Minister of Labour of Canada, he added.
