173 passengers from single flight test positive in India

173 passengers have been tested positive which came back from Italy to Amritsar of Panjab in India. Such incident took place for the second time in two days in India.

Yesterday (Friday, January 7), 173 out of 285 passengers on a flight from Rome to Amritsar in Punjab were identified as COVID positive.

The BBC quoted Indian officials as saying on Saturday. More than hundred passengers were tested after the flight arrived in Amritsar from Milan in Rome on Wednesday.

Local health officials said passengers on the flight were sent home for institutional quarantine after COVID was detected.

Earlier on Wednesday, 125 of the 160 passengers on a flight from Milan, Italy to Amritsar were identified as COVID positive. The infected  passengers were taken to hospital. Among the patients admitted to the hospital, 13 escaped by evading the institutional quarantine, the concerned authorities said.

In the last 24 hours, 1 lakh 41 thousand 374 people have been newly infected in India and 15 people have died. In Italy, 1 lakh 8 thousand 304 infection and 223 deaths have been reported.

Authorities in Punjab imposed a curfew on Tuesday and closed all schools and colleges.

In December 2019, the world's first COVID patient was diagnosed in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. The first death in COVID occurred in China.

Then the deadly virus started spreading very fast in different countries of the world. To address the situation, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a state of emergency on January 20, 2020.

But since that did not improve, the WHO finally declared COVID as an epidemic on March 11 of that year.
