A British Royal Navy warship has collided with a Russian hunter-killer submarine while patrolling at the North Atlantic. The British Ministry of Defense confirmed the information, according to CNN.

It was known that the submarine was being tracked when it hit the HMS Northumberland warship. At that time a broken piece was seen floating behind the submarine. However, a United Kingdom defense source said that the clash was unlikely to be intentional.

The clashes erupted more than a year ago when a British submarine patrolling the North Atlantic spotted a Russian submarine. However, the damaged part of the British warship was returned to a Scottish port for repairs.

A spokesman for Britain's defense ministry said in a statement on Thursday that HMS Northumberland was tracking the Russian hunter-killer submarine by the end of 2020. The Royal Navy regularly tracks foreign ships and submarines to ensure Britain's defenses, the statement said.

Incidentally, British Royal Navy warships regularly patrol the North Atlantic. Recently, the movement of Russian submarines in the region has increased.
