12 dead in stampede in Jammu-Kashmir temple

At least 12 have been killed after being trampled at a Baishnodebi temple in Katra in India's Jammu and Kashmir. More than 50 were injured.
The incident took place at around 3.45 pm on Saturday at the beginning of the English New Year, Indian media says. The injured were taken to a local Hospital named Narayani.
Jammu and Kashmir Police DG Dilbag Singh told the news agency ANI that at least 12 people were killed when they stepped on the premises of Baishnodebi temple. 13 had been injured in the incident.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that the incident took place around 2.45 pm. The two groups of visitors started arguing. After that they rushed towards each other. As a result the incident took place.
Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled over the incident in a tweet. He wrote, I am saddened by the sudden accident at Mata Baishnodebi temple. Condolences to the families of the victims.
Meanwhile, the Modi government has announced immediate assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the dead and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
