Musician Eleyas Hossain has been acquitted in the case filed by actress Shah Humyra Hossain Subah for dowry.

Judge Abera Sultana Khanam of Dhaka’s Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 announced the verdict on Wednesday.

Earlier, a hearing was held in the presence of the two on July 25. After the hearing, the court fixed July 27 for the verdict of the case.

On July 24, the day was fixed for taking evidence in the case. For this, Subah came to testify in court. She verbally told the judge “not to prosecute Eleyas” when the testimony began. The judge then fixed July 25 for the hearing of the withdrawal of the case in the presence of the accused and the plaintiff.

Meanwhile, on January 3, Subah filed a case with Banani police station against Eleyas on the allegation of torture for dowry. In March this year, the investigating officer of the case filed a chargesheet against Sub-Inspector (SI) Masuma Afrad of the Police Women’s Support and Investigation Department, making Eleyas the only accused in the case.

11 people have been made witnesses in the case. Then on May 19, the court accepted the chargesheet. On June 19, the court framed charges against the accused Eleyas and ordered the trial to begin.
