More than 5 million people in different upazilas of Sylhet and Moulvibazar have been inundated due to floods caused by hill slopes and heavy rains. The people of that region are living miserable life in this situation. Dhallywood superstar Shakib Khan has stood by the flood-affected people of Sylhet out of his own ability.
He said on his official Facebook page on Saturday (June 18) that he was providing “financial assistance” to the flood-affected people of Sylhet and Sunamganj.
Shakib Khan himself wrote in that post that even though he is in the United States, he has learned from the media and well-wishers that the flood situation in Sylhet and Sunamganj divisions is very terrible. The plight of the flood-hit people is hurting him terribly.
“From a humanitarian point of view, I am by the side of the people who have been affected by the terrible floods. I have taken the initiative to send financial assistance within my means to meet their basic needs,” Shakib Khan wrote.
“I am also thinking of setting up a fund – from which the money and other assistance received will reach out to those in need to deal with the temporary crisis,” Shakib Khan also wrote.
Calling on the rich people in the society to come forward, the most influential star of Dhaka film said, “I urge the rich people in Bangladesh and abroad to stand by the flood-hit helpless people within their means.”
Attaching an e-mail address at that time, Shakib said, “Those who want to be by the side of the flood victims with any kind of assistance, can contact this e-mail [email protected].”
