Chorki gets international recognition in first year

Chorki has received prestigious recognition at the “Global Media Awards 2022” organized by the International News Media Association (INMA).
This is the first time that this most popular OTT platform in Bangladesh has received this recognition by participating in the category of “Best Initiative to Acquire Subscribers”.
Redoan Rony, chief operating officer of Chorki, said the recognition of INMA “further illuminated” the path of Chorki. The OTT platform has already bagged 12 local awards. “This international recognition of INMA will serve as the inspiration for us to move forward,” he added.
This achievement of Chorki in the global competition of INMA, the largest international organization of media, is also an honor for Bangladesh. The award was announced through a virtual ceremony on Thursday night.
Chorki bagged awards in the first year
Bangladeshi OTT platform Chorki is now viewed in more than 154 countries around the world. In a backward market like Bangladesh in terms of paid subscriptions, the initiative titled “From Making Local to Going Global” is a real recognition in this fast-paced OTT with new content, creative initiatives and innovative communication techniques.
In the first and second place in the ‘Best Initiative to Acquire Subscribers’ category are two Norwegian companies “Dagens” and “VD”. UK’s ‘The Economist’ got third place.
This time, the awards were given in a total of 20 categories at the “Global Media Awards”. The “Miami Herald” of the United States has received the best award in this year’s “Best in Show”.
Innovative and best practices of the global media, fair use of media platforms, subscriptions, business development, advertising, data and insights, products and newsrooms — the best initiatives in these categories are recognized.
INMA’s Asia Pacific, South Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and North America – The Global Media Awards are organized with the best initiatives selected in these six regions.
This year, 854 applications were received from 252 news media brands (newspapers, magazines, digital media, television and radio) from 46 countries for the Global Media Awards. Of these, 332 applications received final nominations. 50 media experts from 24 countries were on the jury board. The event was co-sponsored by the Google News Initiative.
Besides, for the first time in Bangladesh, Prothom Alo has received two big prizes in this event. In the National Brand category, Prothom Alo Digital has won first place in the category of “Best Use of Print” and second place in the category of “Best Idea to Grow Advertising Sales”. Prothom Alo received prestigious recognition at the INMA Global Media Awards last year.
The Dallas-based global organization INMA has been recognizing and awarding the global media since 1937. At present, more than 900 media personalities from 83 countries are members of INMA. It is the world’s largest organization working with media businesses, brands and readers.
On July 12, 2021, Chorki began its journey amid the turbulent time of the COVID pandemic. In just 11 months, Chorki has released more than 40 original content, including about 11 movies. Those contents have gained a good reputation for Chorki in Bangladesh and abroad.
