The High Court today has not postponed the 17th election of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association to be held on January 28. As a result, the voting of the artistes’ association will take place on the scheduled day.
The High Court bench headed by Justice Md. Khasruzzaman passed the order, following a petition to postpone the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association elections.
Advocate Ahsanul Karim, Advocate Nahid Sultana Juthi and Advocate Shah Manjrul Haque appeared for the petition while Deputy Attorney General Arvind Kumar Roy represented the state.
Earlier last week, the High Court issued a rule asking “why it was not illegal to remove 18 members of the Film Artistes’ Association from the voters’ list without any notice”. The High Court bench of Justice Md. Khasruzzaman and Justice Md. Mahmud Hasan Talukdar issued the rule.
Later, a supplementary petition was made to postpone the election of the Film Artistes’ Association to be held on January 28. 16 artists, including Khorshed Alam Khosru, filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking inclusion of their names in the electoral roll. Advocate Mamunur Rashid appeared for the writ petition. Deputy Attorney General Arvind Kumar Roy represented the state.
The biennial election of the Film Artistes’ Association is scheduled to be held on January 28 at FDC. This year, Peerzada Harun is acting as the Election Commissioner (EC) and accompanied by BH Nishan and Bazlur Rashid Chowdhury. Director Sohanur Rahman Sohan is the chairman of the Board of Appeal.
Two panels are taking part in the election of the upcoming Film Artistes’ Association. Among these, the Ilias Kanchan-Nipun panel is contesting for the posts of president and general secretary. Their opposition is the Misa Sawdagar-Zayed Khan panel.
